Lean on me

This artwork evokes themes of connection, vulnerability, and the intertwining of inner life with the natural world. The painting depicts two human figures seen from the back who are leaning against each other. Their silhouettes are muted in gray and earthy tones. Across the lower halves of their bodies, there is a striking explosion of vivid colours that are wild and luminous, reminiscent of flowers and organic growth. These bright, textured shapes contrast strongly with the subdued background and figures, suggesting that the flowers are flowing between the two figures. This creates a sense that shared emotion, life, and energy is circulating through them and projecting out into the world. This evokes the idea that relationships change us, helping us to grow and face the world because someone stands with us, even in our most vulnerable moments. The way the blooms unite the figures suggests that the strength and traits that one person carries can support and uplift the other. Connection becomes a shared resource.
